Save the Date for HS Youth Group! Are you an incoming freshman-senior student? If so, mark your calendars for our kickoff meeting Sunday August 13, and our Youth Day Away at Camp Awanita on August 19.
For most young adults, the time in high school can be a “make or break” period in one’s faith. The Youth Group at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish provides a place where you can ask the difficult questions: what is my purpose? Who and what is God? Should I persevere in Catholicism? Is my faith really true? These are the type of questions that every youth asks himself. A well-ordered youth group gives these serious questions the time and space they deserve, so that you can make the faith your own. The OLR Youth Group is a vital opportunity for young Catholics to deepen their understanding of the truths of the faith and grow into spiritual maturity. Not only does our youth group allow time for questions, its aim is to teach adolescents the practice of prayer. Our goal is to pray on a deeper level, and to engage in the spirituality of the saints, from Francis De Sales to Therese of Lisieux. It is not a coincidence that spiritual giants like this had friends and relatives who were also saints. A further aim of our youth group at OLR is to surround yourself with friends who are seeking God together. With this in mind, we are inviting all incoming 9th-12th graders to come and be a part the OLR Youth Group.
We usually meet Sunday night in the OLR cafeteria from 6pm-8pm, with free time, dinner, and then a conversation and prayer. Our first meeting will be August 13. If you would like to be put on the email list for our group, please email me at David.haggard@olrschool.net.
Our Youth Day away is at Camp Awanita on Saturday August 19. The goal of this day is to meet people and cultivate friendships. The cost of the Day Away is $45 and will include 2 meals. Checks can be dropped off in the parish office and or brought to the first YG meeting on August 13, made out OLR with “Youth Day Away” on the memo line. I have reserved 30 spots, and need to have RSVP’s by August 13.
