A native of Michigan, Jerry Schiffer was ordained a deacon in the Archdiocese of Detroit in 2007, and transferred to the Diocese of Charleston in 2017. He is a graduate of the University of Detroit and Sacred Heart Major Seminary, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Services.
Now retired, Deacon Jerry has enjoyed careers in journalism as a weekly newspaper editor, in financial services as a training manager and, for the final 14 years of employment before retirement, as pastoral associate of St. Linus Church in Dearborn Heights, MI. He and his wife, Kathy, who writes for the National Catholic Register, moved to South Carolina after he retired in 2017.
In addition to his participation in the liturgical life at Our Lady of the Rosary, Deacon Jerry will participate in ministries to the homebound and to the imprisoned. He and Kathy, who live in Seneca, are the parents of three children.
